My first car, still drive it, still love it.
By The avocadoman | on 12/22/2021 2:16:49 AM
When I first got the car, it took me a bit to realize what I have. This vehicle checked off all the basic things I needed, such as space, great for all season driving, while not too bad on gas. And at times, I thought of getting rid of it once I had the money for something "better". But what more can you ask for? Not only did it give me the basics needed for daily driving, but it gave me so much more. A fwd luxury car with a solid, responsive V8 engine, perfect for the whole year, comfortable for short and long trips, and quite enjoyable if you know how to move. I do the majority of service and repairs, so I can tell you it's not hard at all... Unless you have big hands, in which case, you will suffer for sticking your hands into the engine bay. This is where I get into the cons. The air suspension is infamous for failure, as it is on all Lincolns of this era. However, it is not hard to replace. The air springs are only on the rear in the 1998. With that being said, it's not so bad just replacing the rear springs. From what I've experienced, it takes quite a bit until they fail, so it's not a yearly issue or anything ridiculous. I also replaced the air compressor myself, which is super easy, heck I can take it completely apart and put it back together with no issues. The other con is that it is so underrated. There are little to absolutely no aftermarket parts. You'll find 1000 aftermarket parts for a Town Car before you find so much as a custom lightbulb for a Continental of this year. It's a massive shame. But you can always modify the exhaust of course. But I thinks it's fun to keep it the way it is, although it'll catch Nissan Maxima drivers off guard haha. It can move. It's a highway cruiser. So I recommend getting one if you drive far distances often. Got me through an 8 hour drive road trip and back without a flinch. I averaged 26 to 28mpg. I'm not kidding. Although I recommend removing a catalytic converter to ease the flow of exhaust and free up the engine a bit. It has 3 catalytic converters so just keep that in mind if you live in a sketchy neighborhood. Otherwise, I'd say it's a bit more modern than one would expect, because personally I'd say what seemed like luxury back then is now standard on most vehicles today. Sure, it may lack a lot of what newer cars so special, but I'd so my Lincoln has WAY less distractions than many new cars. It also has way less special electronics and sensors that are bound to fail. You see, the only thing to worry about for this Lincoln is the air suspension. Everything else should be pretty solid despite being a 23 year old car. It should be at it's all time low in price if sold right now, but this Continental is bound to become a classic in the next 10 years, especially with EVs becoming more common. 4.6L V8 DOHC 260hp just so you know.… - 5.0
